New Opportunities & Projects

2009 is starting off with a BANG!  Jacob sprained his ankle playing soccer and Daniel is asking how and when he can get his driver's permit.  Oh my.  In the back of my mind I knew that turning 15 means you can apply for a driver's permit but I didn't connect this fact with Daniel's birthday on January 7th.  Just after blowing out the candles he wanted to know when he can get a permit.  That will mean 3 teenagers driving cars!!  Be afraid neighbors, be very afraid - I know I am.  Thankfully we won't have to insure Daniel until he has the official, "I can drive unaccompanied" license after he turns 16 and has accumulated his required hours of driving.  However, 2008 went by in a blur and I'm sure 2009 will do the same; the insurance bill will arrive before I can blink.  We celebrated Daniel's birthday with the FaVoRItE cake for our family:  Chocolate Ribbon Cake.  It's a chocolate bundt cake with a ribbon of cheesecake at the top - absolutely delicious and completely gone at one sitting (recipe available upon request - so easy and so impressive).

In other news... Jacob sprained his ankle while playing soccer with the scouts this week.  He has been very brave about the pain and is thoroughly enjoying his new-found staff of sibling servants.  "Get me a drink Joshua, I can't walk."  "Daniel, make me an ice cream cone, I can't do that with crutches."  By the way, you can get 4 very generously sized ice cream cones out of 1 1/2 quarts of Dryers Ice Cream (just in case you find yourself planning a party and want to estimate how much ice cream you will need).  Our family recommends you use sugar cones for the satisfying cookie crunch they provide.  Here are a couple of hints for anyone who may be injured in the future:  (1) please and thank you get better results than demands and threats (2) Deseret Industries often has crutches in great repair for only $5/pair (3) If you need to borrow crutches we own a pair and would be happy to lend them starting sometime next month.

I have spent quite a lot of time lately thinking about how I can work out of my home doing something that I enjoy and earning some income all at the same time... this morning I think I found the answer at CrimeReports.com.  If I had to create the ideal opportunity for myself this would be it!  It's a writing position, working from home, part-time commitment, awesome website; I am very excited about the opportunity.  Let's hope the feeling is mutual - I'm applying today.

Here's hoping everyone is having an awesome year - now that we're into the 2nd week - Happy 2009!!

The job prospect sounds interesting. You're a good writer. I hope it pans out. Sorry to hear about Jacob's sprained ankle. Ouch! I love how they milk it for all its worth. I also can't believe how old your kids are getting. I just seems like the other day that Daniel was born and that Sarah the 4 year old princess sat on my lap. How times flies!
